Sure Dan P is a lot like Nellie from South Pacific. No, I don’t mean I’m from Arkansas like that nurse from the musical, though I did live there for seven years. No, I am most like Nellie Forbush, because we are both cockeyed optimists.

Just some thoughts as the Astros head off to their favorite haven – the road – after a 12-1 victory in the last game of a 1-5 homestand.

After the latest Astros meltdown, a four-game sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners, a friend of the blog, Zanuda, wrote the following in response to a detailed comment by another friend of the blog, vewill1, “You’ve made some good points. Now the question is, what are the Astros going to do about it?”

After their 5-2 loss to the Mariners on Friday night the Astros hold a tenuous four and a half game lead over the Oakland A’s and only six games over the M’s. The next 16 games could well be the key stretch for this Astros’ teams attempt to repeat as champs of all of baseball…

The Astros had a 13-11 record for the month of July. Looking at the offensive numbers for the month that almost seems like a miracle. But there are some folks we do need to celebrate or lament, so it is time to give the Chippy Awards for the month of July.
