This cynicism or apathy or whatever this current mood that is enveloping my psyche is easily explained. The off-season is bad enough, with occasional news supplemented by lots of filler, like a bad awards show. Bad awards show….that is rather redundant.

Here we are about a week into Spring Training and a couple days before the first Spring Training game, and we already have “concerns” with the Astros. Here are some thoughts about some of those concerns and about some related subjects.

Renaissance Men Part 2 is postponed until your loyal writer gets more free time here in the next couple of weeks. There seems to be a bit more disinterest in baseball non-news lately, as stated succinctly by two of our longtime commenters.

The Astros had been World Champions for 82 days on Thursday. The team had been without a general manager for 76 days. The news about the hiring process was coming out in small and infrequent glops like Heinz ketchup out of one of those old-school glass bottles.

Anyone with a modicum of perception knows that the Astros rode superlative starting and relief pitching with above-average, but not a great offense to the World Championship.
