Astros: Where they are now, part 1

I received an email from the blog founder, Chip Bailey, who had some brainstorms on posts, but no time to write them and passed a few ideas to me. Being the off-season and being that the Astros’ news is evaporating a bit, new ideas are always welcome and here is the first one.

10 reasons the Astros will contend in 2021

The knee jerk reaction here is that the Astros contended in 2020 and came within one final rally of going to the World Series. But in reality, the Astros snuck into the last playoff spot in a field that had been expanded by 60% from five to eight for this most unusual of seasons.

Why Astros’ biggest concern may be starting pitching

The natural thought for Astro fans heading into 2021 is to be concerned about the team’s outfield and relief pitching. Are the Padres following the Astros’ blueprint?

They have made three big trades to beef up their pitching rotation, picking up Blake Snell from the Rays, Yu Darvish from the Cubs and the newly completed pick-up of former Astro Joe Musgrove from the Pirates. They also…

Are the Astros done looking at the outfield?

There is no doubt that the Astros’ 2021 bullpen was an area that needed shoring up after a freefall from a top bullpen in 2019 to a middle of the pack unit in 2020. The bullpen has added Ryne Stanek and Pedro Baez, will see the return of Joe Smith and there have been a…
