I hope everyone is having a fun holiday season. Your loyal servant will do his best AstroNut/ Mr. Bill imitation with his own holiday song parody….
Have yourself a merry Astros’ Christmas
The division will be ours without a fight
Next year Dusty Baker will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry Astros’ Christmas
Jim Crane, when it comes to Altuve – just pay
Next year Maldonado, will be miles away
We will have Yainer Diaz starting every day
And an Altuve, Bregman, Tucker, Alvarez core
Verlander, Valdez and Javier who are dear to us
Will be starting for us once more
Someday soon we will win another title
If the fates allow
Until then, Dana Brown will muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry Astros’ Christmas now
For now, enjoy people, presents, food and everything that is dear to you.

Because there is not a whole lot going on during the Holiday baseball world, it is a good time to dive into the comments section of the blogs that are just pure speculation.
Since there is not big news people tend to let their true selves come out instead of their anger and frustration or insults.
In a lot of cases like this people let their sarcasm wander and start to make fun about how this or that unknown player will become an Astro and then develop into a player that will beat their team for years.
Then there is the attitude that no matter how much other teams spend, the Astros will still be there to create havoc in October.
The hatred for the Astros seems to become begrudging respect in the off season. After a summer of booing the attitude then becomes one of sentiment that Houston will somehow be right in the thick of it come April, even with limiting their spending and not being to get high draft picks to better their poor, depleted farm system.
Seven straight ALCS appearances elicit a begrudging respect from other clubs’ fans in their weak moments.

A whole lot of baseball fans wish they had an organization in their town that comes close to what the Astros continue to produce. And I’m not ready to accept the assumption by some others that think the Astro relevance is coming to an end.
A late Merry Christmas to all. Good health ahead. Everything else is a bonus.

Was Spencer Arrighetti really our best minor league pitcher last year?

I have not seen enough from Arrighetti to this point. I watched one of his starts in Corpus, early July, and nothing stood out.

Let’s see
Old Pro – I can’t imagine that the other teams’ fans don’t see that the Astros have been built into a serious every season contender. They may hate us – but it has to be like our hatred for the Yanks and Dodgers by this time.
Daveb – I agree that the Astros are not necessarily on the downward slump – but they are at a bit of a crossroads here on how they will sustain their success with the decisions on Altuve, Bregman, Valdez and Tucker (and others) in the next two seasons.
AstroNut – thanks for the compliment!
Sarge – So is Maldy going to go mentor Korey Lee like he mentored Yainer unto the bench? A think Grandal is a free agent – so I would assume this is going to be mostly be a Lee/Maldy thing?

Maldy picked up 4 million. I thought he might have to wait until someone got hurt. But maybe his job is to fix Cease. If he does not, we already know his offense and defense stats will remain consistent. Astro fans are polite. South Siders won’t be so nice.

Nice job! I just came across a lot of the ones I wrote 10-12 years ago for you. Always fun. Merry Christmas!

Hmm…my comment didn’t get cleared? Not sure why, since I was only reminiscing about the many song parodies I did for your Chron blog over the years. (Unless I’m now persona non grata for some reason?)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year anyway, Chip and Dan, and Go Astros!
