The poor fans who post on this blog have been so confused and conflicted and confounded and concerned about their Astros, that it is time to send out a set of Musical Messages to you all. It is up to you to pick where you fall in this 1960’s/70’s rock and roll collage…
For those who believe this is the year – Jay and the Americans’ “This Magic Moment”
For those who believe the early season performance was a house of cards – Styx’s “Grand Illusion”
For those who don’t think we will win it all, but like to imagine it happening – Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”
For those who have been through 50+ years of frustration – Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”
For those who have watched the insane run of the Cleveland Indians – Led Zeppelin’s “After the Levee Breaks”
For those who think the team just needs to pull together and get their mojo back – Beatles’ “We Can Work It Out”
For those who just can’t be crushed again – ELO’s “Don’t Bring Me Down”
For those who are Polyannas about our team – Aerosmith’s “Dream On”
For those who think this is just the start of a dynasty – Chicago’s “Only the Beginning”
For those who doubt A.J. Hinch’s leadership – Peter Frampton’s “Show Me the Way”
For those who are totally cynical after years of letdowns – The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again”
For those who can’t believe the ups and downs of a baseball season – Moody Blues’ “Ride My Seesaw”
For those who always feel paranoid about the MLB Front office – Pink Floyd’s “Us and Them”
For those who have given up on 2017 – The Doors’ “The End”
For those who think the team just needs to relax – The Eagles’ “Take It Easy”
For those who can’t wait for the Astros’ bad play to end – CCR’s “Who’ll Stop the Rain”
For those who think that the city of Houston deserves something special – Bruce Springsteen’s “My Hometown”
For those who think the Astros have it in them – David Bowie’s “Heroes”
And of course for those who have no doubt – Queen’s “We Are The Champions”
So where do you stand musically on the Astros?

Didn’t he write that song about Andres Galarraga – “Year of the Cat”?

That song was written for Lee Meriwether, not Galarraga. At least as far as I’m concerned.

Oh….LAWD Zunuda, you just brought back memories of my teenage years with this song! I grew up in Beaumont and on the weekends, kids ( not me😉) used to drive to Vinton, Louisiana to The Big Oaks club, and The Circle club where we danced to Archie, Bell and the Drells sing “Tighten Up”!! The trick was not getting caught drinking beer by older brothers, or your parents! Thanks for the memories….loved it!

I ran into the ghost of Duane Allman who was a much better guitarist than motorcyclist and who had some good advice for Astro fans. “I know your team is Southbound right now, but there is only One Way Out of this slump and that is through. Some of you fans Ain’t Wasting Time No More, while others are Midnight Riders while they are on the West Coast. Just be calm and patient In Memory of JR Reed and don’t start dragging your team to the Whipping Post before you give them a second chance.”

From another genre: We’ll soon either be playin the ‘Orange Blossom Special’ from Minute Maid, or we will be “Eastbound and down – loaded up and truckin’!” Either way ‘The Bandit’ – a/k/a Jose Altuve – will be talking with Cameron Maybin about a possible double steal, and saying: “You got to stop thinkin’ so negative son! We ain’t never not made it yet have we? “

Of course The Allman Brothers are the greatest American band ever. My favourite band since I was knee high to a grasshopper.
Today though the Astros remind me that ‘You Don’t Love Me’ and they must have ‘Done Somebody Wrong’ but in spite of all those ‘Dreams’ we’ll never say ‘Don’t Want You No More’. But if they don’t find the ‘One Way Out’ up then ‘I’m Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town’ because this ” It’s Not My Cross To Bear’. Will there be a ‘Revival’ or are we ‘Southbound’ without any ‘Soulshine’ or ‘Blue Sky’. But remember that you ‘Can’t Lose What You Never Had’.

Astros catch a huge break in the 9th as Correa nudges phillips off second after a double. Giles didn’t fool anybody but did get 3 outs. The losing streak comes to an end. Verlander is the new Ace for the team. 1 hitter for 8 innings.

I can only imagine what it was like to see this game, because just listening to it was stressful enough! GOOD HEAVENS….what a pitcher we traded for!! Every team we play in the next 2+ weeks are playing for their lives, so it ain’t gonna get any easier.
I just hope McCullers can pitch well enough to keep the guys in the game tomorrow night. Ken Giles needs to buy Springer and Correa a nice steak dinner for that play !! DANG!!

Let’s see –
– Now we have the new “who’s going to start game 1 of the playoffs” controversy
– Verlander showed why they got him and he must have enjoyed the defense behind him – especially Marwin early
– So when Fiers loses his starting job and gets it back he is usually sails
– My fear is surgery for McCullers something is wrong
– When is anyone going to get hot again for the club – Where have all the flowers (and homers) gone?

It’s time to start accepting the real possibility that McCullers will never be a healthy pitcher long term.

The natural thing to think is maybe he could close – but could he bounce back and pitch a couple days in a row?

From the article I read it was a FO decision. McCullers said he was fine to go.
Apparently the Astros aren’t concerned with the rest of regular season.
Overly cautious? If these guys aren’t allowed to play and get their momentum going it’s going to be ugly.

If he was fully healthy, he’d be pitching tonight. But our management sometimes gives the impression that a switch can be flipped and we’ll be playing May-June ball again.
The one thing I like about the Cleveland streak now is that it may have come a bit too early.

Has no one pointed out that Verlander gave up a double to Phillips to start the bottom of the fourth and then did not allow another the next seven innings? He did manage to walk and hit Mike Trout, but no other Angels reached base until Giles came into the game in the ninth.

Every ball the Angels hit off of Verlander in the first inning was a hard hit ball. They never got anything else off of him.

It was fun to go back to older posts and see all the debate on why it made no sense to get JV, and he is tired and not worth the money wow am I glad JL didn’t listed to that and listened to me. Just having fun some humor.
LMJ needs an off season and a dose of reality, what a shame a good kid and potential, to fragile of a body and toughness, big difference from being mouthy and being tough ask JV.
I hope LMJ DK, Morton McHugh, Fiers, Peacock etc paid attention last night how a professional athlete/pitcher, tough game winner, looks and acts.

Here’s a thought. During the off season should we be looking to trade LMJ? I guess you have to ask yourself is will he ever be the pitcher that we thought he would be?

You know me, I still think it was the Grassy Knoll. But I wonder if Hinch is going with 5 starters for a while to line up for the playoffs. There is no reason to pitch Fiers unless he is resting a starter or two and trying to give the bullpen a workout so they can figure out what is wrong out there.

Don’t forget McHugh left his start early in Oakland with a fingernail problem. There are three weeks before the playoffs, but he hasn’t pitched much all year and there have to be questions as to what his stamina and arm strength will be. Add in the LMJ injuries…

The Indians just committed their first infield error since August 30th. It’s the top of the 6th and they’re up 4-2 on Detroit. I try not to complain about bad defense and stupid base running too often as there is only so much you fine folks will listen to, but there are reasons the Indians are on such an amazing streak and the Astros are fumbling toward October.

I didn’t watch any of this game tonight. I knew that the Angels were going to crush Fiers after getting shut out by JV last night. I knew after Fiers gave up a bunch of early runs that Hinch would then put in weak relievers to inform his team that he did not expect them to come back.
The Astros facing a lefty who hadn’t beaten anyone all year was the perfect icing on the cake.
Now, a Texans team that had a bad OL last year and made it worse this year, had an average secondary and let it’s best secondary player walk, had no QB and didn’t get one except a rookie, and then let the no-good QB have all the reps in training camp, had no tight ends last year and got none this year, had one receiver last year and got none this offseason, had no running game and will not be able to run this year, are going on the road with three days rest, five players concussed and their middle linebacker suspended and no TJ Yates around to play the Bengals. How do you think that will turn out?
Tonight’s Astros and Tomorrow’s Texans- There are no songs to describe my feelings about these two nights, except the opening few bars of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
Dun Dun Dun Dumb.
