  1. Twelve things the Astros gave me for Christmas:
    1. A starting lineup that had a combined BA of .2795 last season.
    2. Brian McCann and Evan Gattis to replace last year’s opening day catching duo of Jason Castro and Erik Kratz.
    3. Charlie Morton in place of Scott Feldman.
    4. A DH named Beltran.
    5. A RFer named Reddick
    6. A CFer named Springer.
    7. Aoki in the lineup and in the dugout instead of Carlos Gomez.
    8. A new bench coach
    9. A new home for Neshek, who I really wish well.
    10. An increased payroll.
    11. An intact prospect list.
    12. James Hoyt and Jandel Gustave instead of Josh Fields.

  4. It’s Christmas Eve and my house is quiet, other than watching your football team embarrass themselves. All I want for Christmas is this year to be OVER, and to hold on to our future in the minors!! I keep checking to see if Luhnow has made one of his signature 5 for 1 trades, and thank goodness it hasn’t happened yet.
I wish all of you guys and my girlfriends a blessed Christmas day with your sweet families. May you like all your gifts, eat way too much…..and don’t forget to kiss the cook♡♡♡

P.S. And offer to help with the dishes!

    • Was waiting for a newer list, as he makes some excellent observations.

What’s most amazing than our depth is that about 7 guys don’t even qualify as prospects anymore bc they’ve at least had a cup of coffee at the show; we have an enormous amount of very young talent, and the instructional know-how to develop players like Franklin Perez.

The future is as bright as the present!

My gut feeling is we’ll trade for Quintana but one source says they don’t want Fiers. We’re simply going to have to make room with him, surely?

I find this situation most intriguing and that is, we’ve kind of gone into this Spring the same way as last in acquiring Fister (as insurance) when we already had Feldman and Feliz – much the way we have this year with Morton. It seems a bit haphazard so far to not have traded McHugh or Fiers, but the longer we don’t, the more I get a sense we’re just fine without Quintana. That’s something I’m going to have to convince myself of after seeing the health of DK and LMJ, and until I get a sense that Martes is ready.

In my heart of hearts, I like Devenski, Musgrove and even Feliz to see more innings than they’re projected. They’re upside allows me to be willing to trade more proven players! Perhaps the team will see the same in our prospects.
